The USCOC requires its members to
be personally responsible and accountable for their practice and conduct as
follows. This list is not exhaustive as members are expected to maintain the
absolute highest standards of conduct in all matters, personal and professional.
Members are required to:
- be trained and qualified, according to the standards of their own religious
community, for a professional appointment in the pastoral, spiritual and
religious care of recipients;

be personally accountable for their professional conduct to their own religious
community;

respect and observe the rules and regulations of their own religious community;

maintain the highest standards of professional competence and integrity in the
pastoral, spiritual and religious care of recipients;

exercise the greatest sensitivity and discretion in matters of confidentiality,
privacy and respect for the individual recipient;

be prepared to undertake such training and educational opportunities as may
continue to improve their professional development and skills in the care of
recipients;

co-operate fully with care professionals, chaplaincy colleagues and
representatives of relevant organizations in the care of recipients;

respect at all times the religious faith, practice and belief systems of
recipients;

provide for the appropriate pastoral, spiritual and religious services required
by recipients;

ensure that, within their own area of responsibility, no personal action or
omission is contrary to the highest standards of care for, or the welfare of,
recipients;

ensure that they are familiar with available resources in the surrounding area
and how to contact the responsible parties thereof.
